The Ministry of Health in Luxembourg on Friday reported 147 new coronavirus infections, raising the total number of cases to 52,539.
Two further deaths from COVID-19 was reported in the country in the last 24 hours, increasing the total death toll to 606.
Meanwhile, COVID restrictions in Luxembourg which were to end on 21 February will be extended till 14 March, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel announced this afternoon.
Restaurants will remain closed and the night curfew will stay in place, he told a press conference in Luxembourg.
On her part, Health Minister Paulette Lenert explained the situation had improved somewhat in Luxembourg, with the virus once again under control in hospitals, but the risk posed by the different virus mutations was too large to ignore.
The public must continue to observe the current social distancing measures, reduce their physical contacts and wear masks where required, she told the joint press conference.
