AFC adopts precautions against coronavirus

DUBAI, March 8 (KUNA) – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) took precautionary measures to tackle the novel coronavirus (Covid 19), by postponing all matches of the third round of the group stage of the AFC Champions League 2020 for the West Asian region.

In a statement, the AFC said that it had held an emergency meeting in the emirate of Dubai, during which it requested the national federations to prepare a plan to complete the remaining matches from the group stage of the AFC Champions League before entering the round of 16.

It added that it was decided to transfer the quarter-final matches to next September and transfer the semi-final first leg matches to the 14 and 15 of October, and the 28 and 29 of the same month for the second leg, provided that the final round first leg date on November 22 and November 28 for the second leg remains unchanged.

The AFC indicated that the national federations participating in the emergency meeting submitted proposals that the AFC will study after coordination with the parties of the game, including trade partners, before a new statement is issued later on the expected new developments and dates.

This meeting comes after a similar meeting was held last week in the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, for the member national federations of the East Asian region, and another was held yesterday in the Qatari capital, Doha, for West Asian federations
