Al-Mandalawi: The Parliament is working to legislate energy-related laws

First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, confirmed that the Parliament is working to legislate energy-related laws, and supports initiatives that seek to improve the climate situation in Iraq.

A statement by his office stated that Al-Mandalawi sponsored today, Sunday, the Climate Change and Security Conference in Iraq, which was held by the Parliamentary Research and Studies Department in cooperation with the Sanad Organization for Economic Development, under the slogan (We adapt to secure.. We secure to sustain.. We sustain to prosper), and in the presence of a number of MPs and representatives on behalf of the Presidency of the Republic and the relevant ministries, a number of Ambassadors, and specialists.

Al-Mandalawi stressed: What we are going through today is a very dangerous situation as a result of the accumulations of the defunct regime, its neglect and concessions, and the instability that the country witnessed after 2003, and it is an exceptional situation that Iraq must pass through with the help of its people. The global climate affected all sectors and cast a negative shadow on the climate in Iraq.

The first Deputy indicated that the scarcity of water is below the quotas agreed upon with the source countries, and the decline in its levels and the deterioration of its quality means migration and displacement to more abundant sites, and this puts social pressures, economic challenges and security risks, indicating that the multiplicity of climate conferences and their adoption by the highest authorities in Iraq indicates the interest of the state, at all levels, in finding ways to truly address the negative effects of climate change.

Al-Mandalawi indicated that the House of Representatives, through the legal framework, legislates energy-related laws and ratifies related agreements, and supports all initiatives, conferences and events that support the environmental reality and seeks to improve the climate situation in Iraq, calling for concerted international efforts to confront the challenge of climate extremism, and build real partnerships with fund projects Climate, stressing that the future of future generations depends on what we will do to address this danger. / End
