Arab coalition destroys Houthi drone over Saudi Abha airport

RIYADH, The Saudi-led coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen on Saturday said it foiled an attempted attack by a drone near Saudi Arabia’s southern city of Abha.

Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki Al-Malki said the air defense system at the Abha airport “spotted a strange body in the air.” It was shot and destroyed.

The debris was examined and the object was found out to be an unmanned plane, with Iranian specifications, and was launched by the Houthi militia in Yemen targeting the civilian airport.

Al-Malki noted that the coalition later targeted those behind the attack in Yemen’s Saada Governorate.

He stressed that the coalition would hit hard whoever gets involved in acts of terrorism that threatens the safety of Saudi citizens or expats, or the Kingdom’s economic and vital capabilities.

This aggression will not go unpunished, he warned.
