VIENNA, The Arab Group in Vienna on Friday underlined the significance of finding a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue as a genuine gateway to regional stability.
The group’s envoys made the remark during a celebration marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People.
The solution to the Palestinian cause could be achieved through negotiations for an end to the Israeli occupation of Arab territories as per a specific timetable, according to the group.
Addressing the event, the group’s head and Egyptian Ambassador in Vienna Omar Amer said Arab countries appreciate the struggle and steadfastness of the Palestinian people and support their legitimate rights, mainly a Palestinian state in line with the two-state solution.
He saluted the struggle of the Palestinian people against the heinous Israeli occupation, and their insistence on restoring their usurped lands and holy sites.
He stressed that a Palestinian state must be built on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the occupation of all Arab territories, including Syrian Golan Heights and Lebanese lands, must be ended.
On his part, Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmad Abul-Gheit said, in a speech delivered on behalf of him by the league’s mission chief in Vienna Ambassador Samir Quba, that the Arab bloc is keen on marking this annual event every year just out of firm belief that Palestine is a central issue in the entire Arab world.
He lashed out at the US administration for backing Israeli right-wingers’ bid to impose a solution on the Palestinian side and establishing the occupation reality.
The Arab League’s chief also blasted Washington for having recently considered Israeli settlements in the Gaza Strip as not contravening international law.
