Austrian leader approves resignation of interim Gov’t

VIENNA, Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen has Okayed the resignation of a caretaker government led by the country’s first female chancellor Brigitte Bierlein, two days after the conservatives, with Sebastian Kurz at the helm, won snap elections.

The Austrian leader ordered the interim government to remain in power until a new ruling coalition is formed, according to state-run Austria Press Agency.

With nearly all the votes counted, Kruz’s People’s Party won 37 percent of the vote, while his former coalition partners, the far-right Freedom Party, received 16 percent.

The snap general election was called after secret recordings published in May led to the government’s collapse.
