Britain confirms soldier killed in Syria

LONDON, Britain’s defense ministry announced on Friday that one of its solider was killed in Syria.

The solider was killed in an explosion took place yesterday (Thursday) during a joint operation conducted by the British and US forces against the so-called Islamic State in northern Syria, the ministry’s spokesman said in a press statement.

The spokesman refused to give further details about the incident.

The United States also announced today that one of its solider was killed in the same operation, which wounded five others.

Britain’s media outlets have stressed that it is the first time the British military authorities admitted there are British soldiers in Syria.

It is also the first time to announce that a British solider was killed in the US-led international coalition operations against IS militants in Iraq and Syria, according to media. (end)
