Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shukri on Tuesday voiced confidence in Iraqi political powers’ ability to overcome obstacles and form a government representing all spectrum of Iraqi people.
During talks with visiting Iraqi Vice President Ayad Allawi today, Shukri reiterated Egypt’s commitment to supporting Iraq’s unity and sovereignty on all Iraqi territories, the foreign ministry said in a statement in Cairo.
He congratulated Allawi on the recent parliamentary elections, which came to “crown the victories Iraq had realized against terrorist organizations.” The chief diplomat stressed Cairo’s eagerness to promote ties with Iraq in all fields.
For his part, the statement said, Allawi highly appreciated Egypt’s backing to his country on all levels.
He said priorities at home are topped with combating terrorism, restoring security and stability nationwide, and making use of the Arab expertise for reconstruction in Iraq.
