European Parliament President Antonio Tajani called Monday for an immediate end to the violence in Ghouta and the implementation of the UN Security Council Resolution.
“Nothing can justify the massacre of innocent people”, he told the opening session of the EP in Strasbourg this evening.
The offensive on Eastern Ghouta has led to more than a thousand deaths and thousands more have been injured, said the President. The spiral of violence is worsening and all have to take responsibility, including those involved in the Astana process, he said.
“Sustainable ceasefire is needed so that the injured and sick can be evacuated. A political solution must be found under the Geneva process. Humanity is being lost in Syria. Let us not lose our own humanity,” added Tajani.
