EU call for investigation into Idlib air strikes

The European Union (EU) Monday expressed Support to a call by the UN Secretary General for an investigation into the air strikes in Idlib, Syria, on the night of 7 to 8 June in which 44 civilians were killed.

“This further escalation of violence is unacceptable,” an EU spokesperson told journalists.

“Idlib is part of the Astana agreement on de-escalation zones and we call on the Astana guarantors to fulfil their obligations and responsibilities to protect these areas and prevent the killing of innocent civilians,” said the spokesperson speaking on the condition of anonymity.

There is no military solution to the Syrian conflict. Military attacks can only trigger more violence and fuel radicalism postponing the chances for a political solution to the conflict, added the spokesperson
