BRUSSELS, European Union (EU) Foreign Ministers will discuss Iran with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo later Monday, Belgian foreign minister Didier Reynders told journalists.
“I think we need to continue to work towards helping the businesses which want to keep trading with Iran. The aim of the deal is on the one hand to avoid nuclear armament by Iran and on the other delivering Iran a spot on the global trade scene,” he said ahead of a meeting of EU foreign ministers.
“But we also know that at the end of the day it is businesses which make their own choice, and obviously US sanctions are a problem. So there will be intense discussions in Brussels today with US Secretary of State Pompeo on this to try and find a certain balance in this situation,” he added.
According to media reports, Pompeo cancelled a visit to Moscow in order to meet EU foreign ministers in Brussels.
