EU seeks “good cooperation” with new IAEA chief on Iran nuclear deal

BRUSSELS, The European Union Wednesday congratulated Rafael Mariano Grossi, of Argentina, on his appointment as new Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). “IAEA plays a crucial role in upholding nuclear safety and security, a rules-based global order, effective multilateralism, and implementation of public international law, as well as in monitoring and verifying Iran’s nuclear-related commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (Iran nuclear deal or JCPoA),” said Maja Kocijancic, EU spokesperson for foreign policy, in a statement.

“As a strong supporter of the IAEA, the European Union is looking forward to supporting the work of the new Director-General and further enhancing good cooperation with the Agency, including towards the preservation and full implementation of the JCPoA,” she added.
