BRUSSELS, The European Union (EU), Wednesday, expressed concern about developments in Libya following reports that Libyan warlord Khalifa Haftar was preparing to launch an offensive on Tripoli.
“There is no military solution to the crisis in Libya. We have to work towards a political solution,” Peter Stano, spokesperson for EU High Representative Josep Borrell told a press conference.
“Borell is very concerned about what is happening in Libya. It is on Europe’s borders and we want to be a global player which means we have to do everything that we can do to find a solution to the Libyan crisis, ” he said.
Stano said the EU is contributing to the efforts made by the UN special envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame to find a political solution. “There is no immediate plans for Borrell to go to Libya,” he added.
