BRUSSELS, President of the European Council Charles Michel, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and EU High Representative Josep Borrell will participate in the Berlin Conference on Libya on Sunday.
“This strong EU presence is testimony to the fact that Libya is a priority for the EU, which is determined to play a strong and active role at all levels to contribute to achieving and maintaining a lasting ceasefire and pave the way to a political solution to the ongoing conflict,” said an EU statement Friday.
The Berlin Conference is an opportunity to bring this process forward and the EU is ready to mobilize the required tools and resources to guarantee the full implementation of the outcomes of the Conference, it mentioned.
The EU continues to be the strongest supporter of the work of the UN Special Representative Ghassan Salame and the UN Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), as well as the Berlin process as the only avenue towards a peaceful, stable and secure Libya, noted the statement.
