Indian police sources said on Friday that at least 11 people were killed and dozens of others were injured following an explosion at a fireworks factory in southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
The Asian News International reported quoting local police that the explosion took place in a fireworks factory in Virudhunagar district of Tamil Nadu killing 11 workers inside and injuring 36 others.
According to the reports, explosion took place during mixing of chemicals for the production of fireworks.
Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot and the injured were taken to nearby hospitals, the police said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his grief over the incident and announced compensation to the families of dead and the injured.
