PARIS The number of infections from Coronavirus in France surged by 785 in the past 24 hours to reach in total 3,661, with the death toll rising to 79 from 61 a day earlier, French Health Minister Olivier Veran said in a press statement Friday.

Veran also indicated that 164 of those infected here were in grave condition in intensive care units.

He warned that the virus continues to spread and is “accelerating”, so he again urged preventative measures by the public and a maximum effort to follow recommendations on sanitary behaviour, social contacts and for employees to work remotely from home.

France is ranked seventh in the world for the number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus and is ranked sixth among countries with the highest death toll.
