French MoI announces 18.99 pct voters’ turnout midday

PARIS, June 19 (KUNA) — French Ministry of Interior announced Sunday that voters’ turnout in second round of legislative elections, launched this morning, reached 18.99 percent around midday.

In a statement, the ministry clarified that percentage witnessed slight increase compared to the 18.43 of same period of last week’s first round.

Around 48.7 million people are eligible to cast their vote for parliamentary elections in 577 constituencies.

There are 289 seats out of 577 are necessary to gain majority votes in the national assembly, 11 of which represent French people abroad.

The first round of elections witnessed weak participation as voter abstention rate reached 52.80 percent.
