GCC Media Coordination Emphasized Amid Global Changes

Kuwait City: Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Abdulrahman Al-Mutairi emphasized the urgent need for enhanced cooperation among GCC media in light of accelerated international changes and significant regional developments. This announcement was made during the 28th GCC information ministers’ meeting, which Al-Mutairi chaired, noting the necessity for coordination, integration, and collaboration among Gulf media entities.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Mutairi conveyed the greetings of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to the conferees. He highlighted the media’s influential role in shaping public opinions and defending Gulf identity, security, and stability. Developing joint Gulf media action has become a strategic necessity due to current challenges, including rapid digital transformation and knowledge dissemination.

Al-Mutairi expressed hope that the meeting would mark a new phase in enhancing cooperation by supporting common initiatives and projects, unifying media messages, and increasing joint training efforts. He reiterated the importance of Gulf media in raising societal awareness and truthfully conveying principled stances while embodying solidarity values.

He congratulated the re-launch of the common application of GCC news agencies, recognizing it as a significant step towards strengthening joint Gulf media action. Al-Mutairi extended gratitude to Qatar, represented by Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al-Thani, for its exceptional presidency during the previous period and its commitment to supporting common efforts for recovery across various fields. He also thanked the GCC General Secretariat and its staff for their efforts in organizing the meeting.

Meanwhile, Jassem Al-Budaiwi, the GCC chief, expressed gratitude to His Highness the Amir, the current President of the GCC Supreme Council, for Kuwait’s support of joint Gulf actions and to the minister for hosting the gathering. Al-Budaiwi emphasized the prestigious position of GCC states on the international and regional media map, attributing this to the directives of GCC leaders who have prioritized Gulf media as a bridge for communication.

With the backdrop of accelerated technical and media challenges globally, Al-Budaiwi highlighted the necessity of broadening integration and cooperation among GCC media institutions and forming partnerships with international and regional media platforms. The meeting, aligned with GCC leaders’ directives, aimed to enhance the pivotal role of common Gulf media in showcasing the council’s achievements over the past four decades.

Al-Budaiwi pointed out that the media challenges facing GCC states necessitate closer collaboration and integration, especially in combating systematic media campaigns and misinformation that threaten state security and societal cohesion. He stressed the importance of intensified efforts to address hostile campaigns and fake accounts targeting Gulf unity, lauding the member states’ valuable contributions to Gulf media initiatives and projects focused on raising awareness, education, and strengthening common Gulf identity.

The meeting’s agenda included significant topics such as joint Gulf media themes and initiatives devised by GCC States’ media agencies committees. Al-Budaiwi also congratulated the GCC states on the successful re-launch of the new joint application of GCC States’ news agencies.
