BERLIN, German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday voiced concern over tension in the Arabian Gulf region.
Merkel, speaking at a news conference in Berlin, called on stakeholders to seek “political solutions” to end the escalation in the region, noting the ongoing jitters would undermine oil supplies and eventually the global economy.
Her remarks coincided with a US declaration about downing an Iranian drone after it buzzed too close to a cruising US assault ship in the waters close to the key strait of Hormuz.
It was the latest of a chain of incidents that had taken place at or near the strategic location through which at least a third of global crude oil supplies passes.
