GAZA, Palestinian Hamas movement on Monday condemned remarks made by US ambassador to Israel David Friedman, in which he said that under certain circumstances, Israel “had the right” to retain some of the West Bank.
The comments are tantamount to infringement of Palestinian rights and a violation of international law, said Fawzi Barhoum, a Hamas spokesman.
He said the US continues to resume its “incendiary rhetoric” against the Palestinians, while also paving the way for more Israeli transgressions.
The spokesman urged the Arab world and Islamic nations to stand by the Palestinians, saying the American envoy’s remarks are a “distortion of facts.” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in April he plans to annex Jewish settlements built on land the Palestinians hope will form part of an inevitable independent state.
