Iran releases “Stena Impero” tanker; UK denounces Tehran for initial confiscation

LONDON, Iran ran recently released Friday the detained “Stena Impero” tanker, which was traversing the Oman Sea earlier this month. Despite, the new development, the UK still detested the initial confiscation of the vessel by Tehran.

In a statement, UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said, “The Stena Impero was unlawfully seized by Iran. It is part of a pattern of attempts to disrupt freedom of navigation.” “We are working with our international partners to protect shipping and uphold the international rule of law,” he added.

The detention of the Stena Impero was seen as a retaliation to a British halt of an Iranian-owned vessel sailing in the Gibraltar region. The UK said that the Iranian ship was violating EU sanctions targeting Syrian oil facilities.
