TEHRAN, Iranian Foreign Ministry on Saturday summoned British Ambassador in Tehran Nicholas Hopton and handed him a note of protest over the attack on Iran’s embassy in London.
During the note of protest, Iran condemned in the strongest words the incident, Iran’s news agency (IRNA) quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi as saying.
He added that the note calls on the British government to be committed to its responsibilities in protecting diplomats and diplomatic missions on its land.
For his part, Hopton expressed his regret over the accident, affirming that London police arrested the assaulters.
He further said that he would inform London about the note and will convey responses soon.
The Iranian Embassy in London was attacked late Friday by some people belonging to a religious group in Iran. They climbed an embassy wall and caused damage. (end) fz.hm
