TEHRAN: Iran has agreed to a request from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to intensify oversight measures at the Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant (FFEP), one of the country’s key nuclear sites. This move, announced by the IAEA on Thursday, aims to tighten control over uranium enrichment activities as concerns about potential nuclear weapon development persist.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the IAEA disclosed in a confidential report that Iran agreed to increase both the pace and intensity of safeguard measures at the FFEP. The decision follows a period of accelerated uranium enrichment in Iran, with levels nearing those required for the production of nuclear weapons.
The IAEA report highlights that uranium enrichment at the FFEP has doubled in recent days, reaching 60 percent. This is notably close to the approximately 90 percent enrichment level necessary for nuclear weapons manufacturing. The report further details that Iran’s current capacity at the FFEP will allow for the production of mor
e than 34 kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent per month. This output is significantly higher than the 5 to 7 kilograms produced monthly at both the FFEP and Natanz facility in recent months.
