BAGHDAD, The Iraqi Foreign Ministry on Saturday called on “foreign bodies” not to interfere in its current situation, and to respect its sovereignty instead.
“With reform protests going on and with foreign countries and international organizations making comments, the Iraqi government stresses the necessity of respecting the will of Iraqis demanding their own rights enshrined in the Iraqi constitution,” the ministry said in a statement.
It added that the Iraqi government urges all parties to observe the principle of respecting sovereignty and non-interference in Iraq’s domestic affairs.
Unprecedented demonstrations have been taking in Iraq, calling for unseating the government and amending the country’s constitution. Thousands of people have been killed or injured so far.
