Israeli PM fails to form new gov’t – media

RAMALLAH, Israeli Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday has told President Reuven Rivlin that he has failed to form a government, Israeli media reported.

The president was expected to transfer the mandate to the head of the Blue and White party, Benny Gantz, said the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth on its website.

If Gantz fails to form a government, Israel would go to a third round of elections within a year, it added.

On September 25, Rivlin asked Netanyahu to form the new government, after being supported with 55 lawmakers’ votes, while Gantz party got 54.
