Italy grants USD 5.6 mil. for humanitarian emergencies in Yemen

ROME, Italy’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Emanuela Del Re announced on Wednesday that Italy has granted Yemen USD 5.6 million to support humanitarian emergency operations.

Emanuela Del Re approved 5 million euro (USD 5.6 million) as a humanitarian package that was approved by the Italian Cooperation Commission to support humanitarian work of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the World Food Programme (WFP) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in Yemen, said Italian Foreign Ministry in a statement.

The new grant comes as a response to the severe humanitarian crisis in Yemen, as it fulfills all the commitments made at the pledging conference for humanitarian aid for Yemen, held in Geneva on February 26, added the statement.

The humanitarian package includes distribution of basic food, combating child malnutrition, providing protection and legal assistance to victims of violations of international humanitarian law, health care and artificial limbs for survivors of bombings as well as airstrikes.
