Italy PM stresses backing to Lebanon’s stability

ROME, March 16 (KUNA) — Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Thursday affirmed her country’s support to Lebanon stability and boosting cooperation in energy and economy.

This came during a meeting held between Miloni and Lebanon’s interim Prime Minister Najib Mikati that focused on the historical ties between Italy and Lebanon, the Chigi Palace said in a statement.

Miloni also expressed backing to all efforts aiming to defuse tension in the Mediterranean region and curb illegal immigration.

Meanwhile, Mikati thanked Italy for its support to Lebanon’s army and all state sectors, including health, and sustainable and social development.

Mikati headed to Vatican City and met Pope Francis who expressed his concern over ‘difficult’ economic and social situations in Lebanon.

Pope Francis stressed the need of Lebanese people cooperation to get out of this ‘difficult’ crisis and elect a new president. (end) mn.hm
