AMMAN, Jordan on Wednesday condemned “in the strongest words” an attack on a security checkpoint in El-Arish in Egypt’s North Sinai, billing it as a “cowardly terrorist act”.
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the kingdom stands side by side with Egypt in its war on terrorism in all its manifestations, while voicing confidence in Egypt’s ability to protect its security and stability.
The ministry stressed that concerted efforts need to be exerted in order to defeat terrorism.
Eight Egyptian police officers were killed in a militant attack on a security checkpoint in Egypt’s northern Sinai peninsula, the Interior Ministry said.
Five attackers were also killed in the ensuing gunfight in the city of El-Arish in North Sinai, the ministry said in a statement.
