AMMAN, King Abdullah of Jordan said Sunday Jerusalem was the key to peace, stability and resolution of conflicts in the Middle East, affirming importance of backing the Jerusalemites and protecting Arab identity of the holy city.
King Abdullah made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of Arab and International Relations Council (AIRC) led by its Chairman, Mohammad Al-Saqer, official Petra news agency reported.
He said the Palestinian cause was a central issue and urged the international community to find a political prospect to re-launch peace efforts aimed to achieve lasting and comprehensive peace in the region in accordance with the two-state solution and to ensure establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
King Abdullah voiced full support to the Palestinian people to preserve their historic and legal rights in Jerusalem.
He said Jordan would continue safeguarding Muslim and Christian sites in Jerusalem.
King Abdullah reiterated importance of Jerusalem for Muslims and Christians alike.
He highlighted the crucial role the AIRC has assumed in presenting pan-Arab stances at global arenas, especially the Mideast challenges.
Discussions touched on crises in the Middle East and efforts aimed to find a political settlement to them in a manner that restores security and stability to their people
