KUNA is school in media, with a distinguished presence on global scale – Iraqi senior journalist

KUWAIT, Board Chairman and Director General of Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) Sheikh Mubarak Duaij Al-Ibrahim Al-Sabah met here Wednesday with a delegation of the Iraqi Journalists’ Syndicate.

During the meeting, Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij, also Chairman of the Federation of Arab News Agencies, underlined the significance of media cooperation in sustaining bilateral relations.

Exchanging media delegations’ visits would contribute in shedding the right light on, as well as reflecting the true relation both brotherly countries enjoy, the KUNA chief said during the meeting, welcoming the Iraqi delegation, which is in the country as part of the media delegation covering the Kuwait International Conference for Reconstruction of Iraq from February 12-14.

Media preparations and coverage of the major event were also discussed; given the momentum it already gained thanks to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s support.

On his part, Moayed Al-Lamy, chief of the Iraqi Journalists’ Syndicate branded KUNA as a “school in media, with a distinguished presence on the global scale” due to its accuracy and speed in covering news.

He, in part, attributed the openness between Kuwaiti and Iraqi media outlets to Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij’s “authentic Arab and humanitarian approach, deriving from Kuwait’s own.” This visibly manifested through the designation of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah by the UN as a ‘Humanitarian Leader’, Al-Lamy pointed out, recalling Kuwait’s support to Iraq through its darkest hours.

The meeting was attended by Kuwait’s Assistant Undersecretary at the Ministry of Information Faisal Al-Mitlaqim, KUNA’s Deputy Director General for Editorial Affairs and Editor-in-Chief Saad Al-Ali, KUNA’s Deputy Director General for Administrative, Financial and Communications’ Affairs Abdulhamid Malik, Vice Chairman of KUNA board and Trustee of the Kuwaiti Journalists’ Association Adnan Al-Rashid, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at KUNA Essam Al-Ruwayeh and Deputy Editor-in-Chief for local desk affairs Talal Al-Kanderi.

The Iraqi delegation included Al-Lami, also Chairman of Federation of Arab Journalists, in addition to Editor-in-Chief of the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA) Shafiq Al-Terki, director of al-Hurra TV channel Falah Hilayel and director of al-Rasheed TV, Ali Baban, among others.
