Kuwait Amir Representative arrives in Glasgow to attend COP26

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s representative His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah arrived in the UK on Sunday to attend the COP26 global environmental summit.

Receiving him was a representative of Britain’s Queen Elizabeth and Kuwait Ambassador to the UK Khaled Al-Duwaisan.

Upon his arrival, he underlined the importance of taking part in the event, due to the “huge challenges” facing the world as a result of climate change.

“Climate change has significantly affected all aspects of economic, environmental and social life,” he said, calling on nations to “collectively enact necessary legislation to reduce its destructive consequences.” He mentioned the positive role played by Kuwait in terms of national contributions to a series of development projects aimed at avoiding an increase in greenhouse gases and reduce harmful emissions.

These include the diversification of its energy production sources and the rehabilitation of oil refineries and industrial facilities to produce environmental fuel.

Separately, at his residence, he hosted several service members of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, who took part in the 1991 war of Kuwaiti liberation, where he attended a bagpipe recital of ‘Sands of Kuwait’, written and composed by LCpl Gordon MacKenzie.
