Kuwait and China Forge Renewable Energy Partnership with New Framework Agreement

Kuwait City: The State of Kuwait and China have taken a significant step towards enhancing their cooperation in renewable energy by signing a framework agreement on Monday. The agreement lays out the technical details of joint efforts between the two nations in advancing renewable energy technologies.

According to Kuwait News Agency, the signing ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Chinese National Energy Administration. Kuwait was represented by Dr. Adel Al-Zamel, the Undersecretary at the Ministry of Electricity and Water and Renewable Energy, while China was represented by Ren Jingdong, the Deputy Director of the Chinese National Energy Administration. The event was also attended by Ambassador Sameeh Johar Hayat, Kuwait’s Assistant Foreign Minister for Asia Affairs, who plays a key role in executing agreements and memorandums of understanding between the two countries.

The framework agreement follows six months of negotiations and establishes a plan, supervised by China, for the development of the Al-Shagaya and Al-Abdiliya renewable projects. Each project is set to have a production capacity of 3,500 megawatts, with potential expansion to 5,000 megawatts.

Ambassador Hayat highlighted that the agreement aligns with the directives of Kuwaiti leadership on major joint projects. He also mentioned that additional details on large-scale projects with China, including the Mubarak Al-Kabeer port project signed in February, would be revealed soon. Hayat emphasized the growth in Chinese-Kuwaiti relations, noting the strong ties between the nations.

The collaboration is further strengthened by the visit of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to China, where he met with President Xi Jinping. This visit has bolstered bilateral relations, leading to agreements on enhancing cooperation across various sectors.

As Kuwait and China prepare to celebrate the 54th anniversary of their diplomatic relations on March 22nd, this agreement marks a significant milestone in their partnership, reflecting the robust and evolving relationship between the two countries.
