A Kuwait-based diabetes center has earned UN recognition for its efforts to fight the global epidemic, the body said on Tuesday, hailing the award as the culmination of years of diligent research.

Dasman Diabetes Institute has made tremendous progress over its contributions towards staving off diabetes and obesity, the center’s director general Dr. Qais Al Duwairi said in a statement.

He said the award was an “honor” that will serve as an incentive for greater accomplishments in the field of diabetes research, saying he expected the center to earn more accolades as it steps up cooperation with global bodies.
