Kuwait City: Today marks several significant events in Kuwait’s history, showcasing the country’s commitment to press freedom, economic justice, and social advancements. In 1961, Kuwait Amir Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah signed a pivotal law ensuring that publishing freedom is protected within the legal framework. This landmark legislation underscored the importance of free expression in the nation’s media landscape.
According to Kuwait News Agency, another notable event occurred in 1965 when the National Assembly unanimously rejected proposals from foreign oil conglomerates concerning revenue allocations. The decision emphasized the Assembly’s stance that the distribution of returns favored these companies at Kuwait’s expense, thereby safeguarding the nation’s economic interests.
In 1985, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs further cemented Kuwait’s position as a hub for medical knowledge by signing an agreement to establish the headquarters for the Arab Center for Authorship and Translation of Medical Science in Kuwait. This agreement aimed to advance medical science through translation and authorship in the Arab world.
A maritime incident in 1999 saw the sinking of the trawler “Bayan” of Kuwait Oil Company at Al-Ahmadi port after it accidentally collided with the pier. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported from the incident, but the tugboat, valued at KD three million (approximately USD 9.7 million), was lost.

Moreover, in 2018, Kuwait reaffirmed its commitment to global causes by contributing around USD 2.4 million to various United Nations agencies and funds, demonstrating its dedication to international cooperation and support.
