Kuwait defends Arab interests, Palestinian cause — Palestinian FM

Kuwait’s stances have been defending Arab interests and the Palestinian cause recently at international scenes that mirrored the Kuwaiti leadership’s sincerity and braveness, visiting Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al-Maliki said on Tuesday.

Al-Maliki made the statement during a news conference held on the sidelines of his visit to Kuwait during which he delivered a letter from President Mahmoud Abbas to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The letter carried granitite and appreciation of the Palestinian people and government to His Highness the Amir and the State of Kuwait for supporting the Palestinian cause.

Al-Maliki expressed his appreciation and thanks to Kuwait for its backing to the Palestinian cause, mainly the recent draft resolution submitted to the UN Security Council on providing international protection to the Palestinian people.

He said that His Highness the Amir confirmed to him that it is Kuwait’s mission to assume the responsibility of the Palestinian dossier at the UNSC.

The Palestinian minister also commended the “courageous and distinguished” performance by the Foreign Ministry led by Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah in representing Arab and Muslim issues. He indicated that Kuwait has been protecting and supporting the Palestinian cause, lauding the Kuwaiti mission’s role in the UN towards Arab and Muslim issues.

The Palestinians people have seen that Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled and Kuwait’s Ambassador to the UN Mansour Al-Otaibi as Palestinian heroes due to their big stances supporting the cause, Al-Maliki noted.

He pointed out that “the meeting with the political leadership stressed the necessity of coordination on all levels to face future challenges at the UN”.

He went to say that there was an agreement on several matters, mainly the Palestinian cause.

Asked about the US pressures against Kuwait’s draft resolution on Palestine at the UN, he said Kuwait was insisting on submitting the bill and this embarrassed Washington, extolling the Kuwaiti brave move.

On reconciliation, the minister said that the Palestinian leadership realizes the importance of ending split and unifying all Palestinians.
