KUWAIT, Kuwait, through its non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council (UNSC) for (2018-2019) and meetings with relevant parties, seeks to mitigate sufferings of the Yemeni people, Kuwaiti Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah said Wednesday.
In remarks to reporters following his participation at a ceremony held by the Senegalese embassy in Kuwait, marking Senegal’s national day, Al-Jarallah said “we have managed, through the UNSC membership, to serve this issue,” stressing Kuwait’s continued support for Yemen.
The Kuwaiti participation in the Geneva conference upon a call by the UN to support the UN humanitarian response in Yemen is a manifestation of Kuwait’s backing to the Yemeni people, he made clear.
He pointed out that Kuwait is working on both political and humanitarian paths for the Yemeni dossier, referring that the political one is based on contacts, consultations and meetings since the beginning of the crisis.
He stated that Kuwait hosted several talks among the Yemeni parties for this purpose.
Regarding the humanitarian path, he explained that it is the desire of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Humanitarian Leader, that Kuwait has a distinguished role in supporting the humanitarian situation in Yemen.
Al-Jarallah referred to the role of Kuwait’s active charities covering all areas of Yemen that is praised and welcomed by the Yemeni people.
He went to say that Kuwait is part of the Arab coalition aiming to achieve stability in Yemen, and fully aware that Yemen represents a side of the Gulf Cooperation Council.
When terrorist organizations’ plots succeed in Yemen, it means that security and stability of the region will be greatly threatened, he indicated.
