CAIRO, Kuwaiti Minister of Oil, Electricity and Water Khaled Al-Fadhel said Tuesday his country uses high technology and introduces renewable energy projects in line with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s directives.
Addressing a meeting of the Arab Ministerial Council of Electricity, the minister said Kuwait has applied high-tech projects through Al-Shaqaya renewable energy complex.
Al-Shaqaya project aims at using renewable energy sources in generating 15 percent of the Gulf country’s total power consumption by 2030, the Kuwaiti minister remarked.
He recalled that Kuwait had hosted the fourth edition of the Arab Forum on Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ARFREEE) within the framework of propping Arab cooperation in this regard.
Attended by a galaxy of experts and specialists, the gathering considered a bevy of subjects and topics purposed to boost energy investment in the Arab world, he added.
However, he underlined that it is imperative for Arab countries to carry on working with other countries, along with regional and international organizations and blocs with a view to tapping technological advancement in the power space.
He pointed out that the power and energy sector often requires more concentration on the programs of power conservancy and efficiency thanks to relevant favorable reflections on natural resources.
The Kuwaiti minister voiced satisfaction with progress in discussions pertinent to a planned common Arab electricity market.
