Kuwait jurists tout Amir’s address

KUWAIT, Several Kuwaiti jurists Monday underscored the important address of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, especially regarding the rule of law and constitution.

Speaking to KUNA, the jurists stressed the significance of sticking to the contents of the address and steering away from affairs considered at court.

Dean of the Kuwait University Faculty of Law Dr. Fayez Al-Dhefeeri said Kuwaiti people highly value the Amir’s speech at this critical time.

He said that everyone in the country should follow the content of the Amir’s speech “if we really seek security and stability.” The professor of law remarked that the matters “are going in the right legal direction” outlined by His Highness the Amir.

Urging people to shrug off rumors on social media, he spoke highly of the Amiri address as coming in line with transparency between the ruler and the ruled.

Echoing Al-Dhefeeri’s views, Dr. Mohammad Al-Moqate, also a professor of law, quoted His Highness the Amir as underlining that Kuwait is a country of constitution, institutions and law”.

He also hailed the Amir’s stress that the protection of public funds is deemed a constitutional matter, while calling on people to bear in mind that a defendant is innocent until proven guilty.

He urged everyone in the country to observe the constitution and law just as stated by His Highness the Amir in his today’s address to the nation.

On his part, Mohammad Al-Feili emphasized that the Amir’s speech should be viewed as a piece of paternal advice that does not mean restrictions on freedoms enshrined in the constitution.

He added that the Amir’s speech showed very clearly that he, personally, is very much interested in the protection of public funds, and that in case of allegations, court is the sole resort.

He noted that by delivering today’s landmark address, the Amir “has really dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s.”
