IRBIL, Kuwait will play against Saudi Arabia, Sunday evening, in the 2019 West Asian Football Federation (WAFF) Championship’s Group B match at Franso Hariri Stadium in Irbil.
Players of the Kuwaiti National Football team, known as Al-Azraq (the Blue), are back participating in major football tournaments after a three-year ban.
Al-Azraq will play against traditional rival Saudi Arabia — nicknamed Al-Akhdar (the Green) — in a match, which is hard to predict.
Kuwait and Saudi Arabia played 45 games; the latter won 17 of them, Al-Azraq won 16. They tied 12 times.
The WAFF Championship today will see an earlier match between Bahrain and Jordan, the other teams of group B.
The nine teams, participating in the tournament, are divided in two groups; with leaders of each group facing off at the final match scheduled for August 14.
Group A’s matches, played in Karbala south of Iraq, includes the teams of Iraq, Yemen, Palestine, Syria and Lebanon.
