Kuwait Presents Human Rights Report at UNHRC in Geneva

Geneva: A delegation from Kuwait, led by Minister of Justice Counselor Nasser Al-Sumait, presented the country’s fourth national report before the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) on Wednesday. This was part of Kuwait’s participation in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) during the Council’s 49th session in Geneva.

According to Kuwait News Agency, Al-Sumait explained that the report was prepared by representatives from relevant national ministries and agencies, in coordination with Kuwait’s permanent mission to the UN in Geneva. He noted that Kuwait has joined seven core international human rights conventions, in addition to several agreements related to international humanitarian law, underscoring Kuwait’s active role in development and humanitarian relief.

The Kuwaiti delegation engaged in an open and transparent dialogue with the international community on various human rights issues, highlighting key measures taken to fulfill both contractual and voluntary commitments. The delegation also listened to comments, questions, and recommendations from UN member states and participating delegations, which were addressed objectively, with clarifications provided by relevant officials.

Kuwait expressed gratitude to participating countries, the working group, and Human Rights Council staff for their efforts. Special thanks were extended to the National Committee, represented by Ambassador Sheikha Jawaher Al-Sabah, for coordinating national efforts and report preparation, and to Ambassador Nasser Al-Hain and the permanent mission for their continued representation of Kuwait’s human rights record.

The UPR is a non-treaty mechanism established by the UN to promote human rights through a periodic review held every five years, evaluating the progress made by member states.
