Kuwait supports women’s empowerment in line with vision 2035

The Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development Dr. Khaled Mahdi affirmed on Sunday the government’s keenness on supporting women’s empowerment in line with the development plan of 2035 vision.

This came in a speech during the launching ceremony of the Women’s Empowerment Platform – Kuwait, an event organized by Limak Construction Company in cooperation with the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development.

He added that the platform coincided with the quest to implement the fifth item in the sustainable development goals, noting that it sought to increase the percentage of women decision-makers from 21 to 35 percent in the public sector.

He said that the role of women was clear in various health, social, humanitarian and voluntary sectors during the coronavirus pandemic, which confirms the importance of their role in society.

He pointed out that the private sector has become increasingly interested in employing women, providing them with training and development opportunities and giving them executive positions in decision-making places, indicating that this is a way to achieve sustainable development goals.

For her part, the head of the Center for Women’s Studies and Research at the College of Social Sciences in Kuwait University, Dr. Lubna Al-Kazi, said that enhancing women’s role in the workplace will bring them better income and improve human capital, in addition to inspiring the private sector.
