As the first women’s society to be established in Kuwait, the Women’s Cultural and Social Society (WCSS) is to mark 60 years of its inception tomorrow (Friday).

Founded on February 3, 1963 by a group of highly educated women, the society is mainly meant to develop women in all fields, encourage their participation in community activities and increase their awareness of their rights and duties.

Speaking to KUNA on this occasion, the society’s chairwoman Lulwa Al-Mulla said the institution has become an example to be followed by public interest societies thanks to long years of praiseworthy efforts and activities.

She underlined that it is essential to press for enacting a fresh piece of legislation that can protect families, mainly women, from domestic violence.

The society’s Secretary-General Ghada Al-Ghanem said the body’s main objectives are to highlight the issues of families, chiefly children, citing learning courses as a paradigm in this regard.

The institution pays much heed to learning and public awareness as well as support for some segments of the Kuwaiti society, she said, adding that all the society’s activities and achievements since it was created have been archived in order to provide people with useful and valuable information about the society.

Furthermore, the WCSS has helped Kuwaiti women join the country’s judiciary and participated in Kuwait’s 2035 development plan, in addition to several campaigns and initiatives to raise public awareness about some diseases like Alzheimer’s and cancer.

The Women’s Cultural and Social Society (WCSS) was established by a group of Kuwaiti women who were among the first to graduate from universities and higher education institutes. The Society’s main objective is to develop women in all fields to ensure their effective contribution to such issues
