Kuwaiti diplomat confirms keenness to help displaced in Kurdistan region

– Kuwait Consul General in Irbil, Dr. Omar Al-Kandari, stressed, Monday, Kuwait keenness to continue providing humanitarian aid to displaced and refugees in the Kurdistan region of Iraq.

In a statement to KUNA, Al-Kandari said after his meeting with the president and members of the Barzani Charitable Foundation, that during the meeting they discussed ways to ensure providing various humanitarian aid to the displaced and refugees in and outside the camps at a time where international humanitarian organizations give up assistance.

Al-Kandari said that during this year, new mechanisms and methods were implemented in the distribution of food baskets in coordination with local partners to deliver aid to the homes of the beneficiaries due to the measures taken to confront Covid-19.

He said Public Awqaf Secretariat distributed 65 tons of food to the displaced and refugees during the month of Ramadhan. Kuwait relief society also distributed 150 tons of food in many governorates.

In a statement to KUNA Musa Ahmad, President of the Barzani Charitable Foundation, expressed gratitude to Kuwait for providing various humanitarian aid on many occasions.

Kuwait was and is pioneer in providing various humanitarian aid to the displaced and refugees in the region, he said, adding Kuwait has greatly contributions in alleviating the suffering of the displaced and refugees, as well as easing the burdens of governmental institutions and humanitarian organizations.

Since mid-2015, Kuwait stood by the displaced Iraqis in the Kurdistan region, which had the largest share in receiving waves of displaced persons after so-called Islamic State took control of large areas of Iraq, he said.

The humanitarian leadership of Kuwait has spared no effort to stand by the displaced by providing various types of support to the Kurdistan region of Iraq, he added.

The relief efforts came within the framework of the Kuwait by Your side campaign, whose activities in the Kurdistan region included establishing shelter camps, providing water and food, establishing health centers, a relief air bridge, distributing food vouchers, blankets, furniture, oil heaters, and many others activities
