Kuwaiti MP stresses importance of respecting Muslim groups’ rights in non-OIC states

Kuwaiti MP Dr. Hamad Al-Mattar stressed Friday the importance of respecting the rights of Muslims in the countries that are non-members of the Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC).
In a speech during the first meeting of the Muslim Minorities Committee of the Union of Councils of Member States of the OIC in the Turkish capital Ankara, Al-Mattar expressed concern about the challenges, obstacles and problems faced by Muslim groups resulting from discrimination, oppression or persecution in several countries and regions.
He also stressed the importance of continuous coordination among the member states of the organization in order to find ways to help Muslim groups solve their problems, protect their religious, cultural, civil, political and economic rights, and preserve their Islamic identity.
Al-Mattar stressed the importance of United Nations Human Rights Council Resolution No. 16/18 adopted in March 2011 on “combating intolerance, negative stereotyping, stigmatization, discrimination and incitement to violence against persons based on their religion and beliefs.”
