Malaysia sends diplomatic note to Indonesia over forest fires

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia sent on Friday a diplomatic note to Indonesia to take an immediate action on putting out fires, which are causing haze and smog in several parts of eastern Malaysia.

Deputy Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis said the note would also urge Indonesia to prevent the fires from recurring.

“The satellite images from a day before showed a total of 1,393 hotspots in Indonesia – 306 in Sumatra and 1,087 in Kalimantan – compared to 17 in Malaysia,” she added.
