BEIRUT, A financial meeting took place Friday afternoon at Baabda palace, under the chairmanship of President Michel Aoun aiming to strengthening Lebanese banking sector and protect the rights of depositors and the liberal system.
Attending the meeting was Caretaker Ministers Ali Hassan Khalil, Salim Jreissati, Mansour Bteish and Adel Afiouni, alongside Central Bank Governor Riyad Salameh, Head of the Association of Banks in Lebanon Samir Sfeir, Head of the Banking Control Commission Samir Hammoud, Advisor of Caretaker Prime Minister Nadim Munla, and Presidency’s Director General Antoine Shoucair.
Talks reportedly featured high on the means to face the current crisis in Lebanon.
During the meeting, President Aoun made several propositions that ensure the continuity of trust in the Lebanese banking sector and protect the rights of depositors and the liberal system.
Reading out the statement issued following the meeting, Sfeir indicated that the Central Bank Governor had been tasked with adopting provisional measures in coordination with the Association of Banks in Lebanon, as well as with issuing circulars in order to preserve stability and confidence in the banking sector and the monetary situation.
