BERLIN, German Chancellor Angela Merkel is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Thursday in order to emphasize close ties between the two countries.
Merkel announced that the two-day discussions will tackle political and economic relations between both countries.
Merkel stressed the deep-rooted relations with the Chinese government at the start of the G20 leaders summit in Hamburg, Germany, July 7, 2017.
Tensions between the two largest economies (US and China) spiked last month when President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on up to USD 150 billion in Chinese imports to punish Beijing for violating American intellectual property. China vowed to retaliate with tariffs on everything from soybeans to airplanes.
