Morocco-Cabo Verde Relations, Model of Inter-African Cooperation Desired by HM the King (Joint Statement)

Rabat – The Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Cabo Verde stressed, Tuesday in Rabat, their shared will to make their partnership relations a model of inter-African cooperation, desired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. In a joint statement issued at the end of the second session of the Great Joint Cooperation Commission of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Cabo Verde, chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita, and the Cabo Verdean Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Regional Integration Rui Alberto de Figueiredo Soares, the two parties reaffirmed both countries’ willingness to develop an ambitious Public Private Partnership (PPP) mutually beneficial to serve as a model of South-South cooperation in the Continent.

During their meeting, the two ministers also welcomed the excellence of the deep ties of friendship and solidarity between the two countries and praised the quality of feelings of esteem and respect that characterize the relationship between His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Brother, His Excellency Jose Maria Pereira Neves, President of the Republic of Cabo Verde.

In this regard, Bourita recalled the momentum generated by Soares’ visit to Rabat and Dakhla, in August 2022, stating Morocco’s full readiness to continue to work to provide a renewed impetus to this cooperation and solidarity momentum.

The two parties also reviewed the evolution of the fruitful cooperation between the two countries in several areas and the possibility of diversifying and expanding it, further consolidating promising sectors such as tourism, training, financial services, maritime fishing, management and operation of ports, among others, which are the strategic axes of the Strategic Plan for Sustainable Development 2022-2026 (PEDS II), in accordance with the guidelines of the highest authorities of the two countries, said the joint statement.

In addition, the two ministers stressed the interest of the Heads of State in developing economic relations between the two sister countries, as part of a new partnership strategy.

In this context, Bourita marked the Kingdom’s readiness to contribute to socio-economic development efforts in Cabo Verde, especially in priority sectors such as tourism, fisheries, health, agriculture, vocational training and energy.

In addition, both parties are pleased to hold the Business and Investment Forum, on the sidelines of this Commission, organized jointly by Morocco’s CGEM and AMDIE and their counterparts in Cabo Verde, to promote trade between the two countries and create win-win partnerships in sectors of common interest.

Similarly, they stressed the need for establishing a Morocco-Cabo Verde Business Council and take advantage of promising economic prospects related to the consular presence Cabo Verde in Dakhla, which is expected to become a pole of excellence in regional economic integration in Africa.

The two parties have also agreed to hold the third session of Morocco-Cabo Verde Great Joint Cooperation Commission in Praia, on a date to be mutually agreed by diplomatic means, concludes the joint statement.
