OIC appreciates Kuwait’s concern for Palestinians’ welfare

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has praised a Kuwaiti initiative to adopt a UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution calling for “international protection” of Palestinian civilians.

Kuwait’s firm commitment as a non-permanent member of UNSC and its efforts to draft such a resolution are highly appreciated, the Islamic bloc’s secretary general Dr. Yousef Al-Othaimeen said in a statement on Monday.

The proposed UNSC resolution condemns Israel’s use of force against Palestinian civilians and calls on Israel to adhere to the Fourth Geneva Convention, which deals with the protection of civilians in a war zone, Al-Othaimeen clarified.

Meanwhile, he emphasized that the OIC would continue to stand by the Palestinians and supports their aspirations for statehood.

The United States vetoed on Friday the Kuwaiti-drafted UNSC resolution, while 10 out of the 15 UNSC member nations voted in favor of the draft.
