OIC lambasts opening of Brazilian trade office in Jerusalem

AL-AHSA, Saudi Arabia, The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) denounced on Saturday the last week decision of Brazil to open a trade representation office in Jerusalem city in the occupied Palestinian West Bank.

The move flatly contradicts the principles of the international law and the provisions of the UN Security Council Resolution 478, according to an OIC press release.

The UNSC resolution calls on the UN member states that opened diplomatic missions in Jerusalem to pull out their missions, the statement reminded.

The OIC regretted that the move could be a harbinger that the South American country is backing down on its historical stand which used to be in consistency with the international law and the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people.

It cautioned against siding with the illegal policies of Israel that aim to change the legal and historical status of Jerusalem, saying that such tendency puts in jeopardy the future of the shared interests of Brazil and the OIC member states.
